According to professionals and educationalists,

The days when children played with their parents and grandparents are no where to find, because of the packed schedules. Here are the days when children and even elders are bound to electronics. As a result, the child is kept away from the hook of life and hence is rarely held accountable for their actions.

The Role of Parents

Swamy Vivekananda said, “ Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man..”

The kind of person the kid grows will have the reflection of their parents. Kids just learn from around, whether it is good or bad. We parents are the ones who can analyze the good and bad traits of our child.

Before the school and teachers, parents are the major source of shaping the kids in the right way. Kids are like sponges. They absorb what is there in and around the place they were in. For this reason, we as parents need to spend some time with the kids to observe their actions and words.

Children used to spend time with their parents, grandparents, or other elders in the house. They used to listen to the grandma’s stories and explore them by asking and knowing things. But now, they are given a mobile in hand. These underline that children need attention more than ever until they know what’s right and wrong. There are many distractions around them to install ill thoughts and imprecise truth . It is we who have to steer them on the right path. Here comes the need for moral values for children.

What are Moral Values?

According to us, any activity that involves judging right or wrong requires values. While “Morals” are the senses to make the right conclusion. In essence, moral values are personality traits. Following moral ideals help children develop a good personality that is likable. Moral values are the standards that help individuals choose for themselves. This is the reason for us to introduce a subject called moral science.

Students are now more into studies and games but somewhere lacking moral values. In our moral science subject, we inculcated the basic principles such as truthfulness, honesty, hospitality, tolerance, empathy, and more.

The Values To Incorporate –

1. Respect:

We tell the child to “Give respect so they will get loved back more.”  A child must be taught to respect people regardless of age, religion, nationality, or beliefs. We as parents and teachers are an example for the child when we speak respectfully. Another important thing to teach the child is to respect and accept the competition. We must inculcate in children, respect for their circumstances as they learn from their failures.

Healthy social and professional relations from their childhood are steps to make them social. Talking politely to their bus drivers, maidens or house help are the things we teach to build ideal behaviours.

2. Gratitude:

The expression of thanks and appreciation is the most incredible human nature. It begins with contentment. We at Walkertown, cultivate thankfulness in children. This event starts by thanking their maid who helped them complete their lunch box, their bus driver who got them in and out of the bus, and their teacher who guided them to learn and enjoy. We don’t teach these as a lesson but as regular exercise. We teach them this value as a part of their daily activities.

3. Honesty:

“Honesty is the best policy.” Children read this in their stories and books, but to understand it’s true meaning might be difficult for them .

A child can learn honesty by being truthful to the parents and teachers. Let your child speak to you fearlessly about their daily activities be it school or playground. Do not restrict them from expressing themselves.  Be it grabbing their friend’s pencil box or bringing a doll from their friends. Once they convey the situation to you, you can make them understand  if their actions were right or wrong and what’s the right approach . This way you can acquaint your child to understand the difference between a wrong and the right path. This will surely imbibe in them to not lie about anything.

In fact, our faculty encourages the children to tell what he/she did in the day. We take every word of the children and let them speak their heart out and to understand their perspectives which helps the faculty  to teach them things better.

4. Empathy:

Empathy means understanding the other person’s problems, issues, emotions, and concerns. This is important to make the child socialise with the surroundings and to offer help to people in need. To raise an empathetic child, we need to first  be empathetic toward them. Our teachers listen to the story of each of our students. We do not  judge or jump into conclusions before listening the whole story. Then we gently answer them, so that they feel comfortable sharing anything with us.

5. Compassion:

Feeling love and care for others is the best thing one can experience. It is our responsibility to instill such values in children. It is necessary that the children learns to feel the emotions. Compassion and kindness can boost academic performance as well as one’s health, happiness, and interpersonal relationships.

6. Equality:

Equality is an integral moral value to have. Treating everyone equally for their rights, and opportunities is necessary. This will help eradicate thoughts of supremacy. These feelings are learnt from the surroundings where they spend most of their time.

The way you treat your maids, watchman, or maintenance member matters a lot for the kid to learn equality. Equality need not be sitting parallel and doing the work always. It is treating people as a human than as your support at work.

7. Courage:

Courage is a willingness to do things in any unforeseen instance or difficult situation. This ethical practice prepares individuals to do what is right. If the child is telling about his classmate who is bullying him, take it seriously. Speak to him in detail. This makes the  child  understand that he needs to raise his voice against unfair things around them.

8. Generosity:

It is essential for fostering kindness and social responsibility in your child. A kind child will be willing to provide a helping hand. Allow your child to offer help to others in need. Let them do what little they can.

9. Perseverance:

Making consistent efforts to accomplish a goal or feat is the act of perseverance. It’s important to introduce youngsters to a never-give-up mentality when teaching tenacity. Introduce it in their  everyday life. If a child has low grades, encourage him/her to keep working hard until they receive the best grades. But do not reprimand and compare them with others. When you can, use encouraging words to help the child learn how to persevere.

10. Self-Control:

With self-control, Children can better manage their ideas, words, behaviour, and emotions. Such kids refrain from impulsive behaviour and temper tantrums. Promote the value of self-regulation and patience to develop self-control. For instance, the next time a situation makes you furious or frustrated, try to restrain your feelings and respond rationally. It will give your youngster the best role model for self-control.

At Walkertown

At Walkertown Academy, we are responsible for teaching moral values to the child from a young age. Real education is not only academic excellence but also humane excellence, We believe it and practice it.

Comment down which of the above Morals your child posses and how you show your appreciation for their Good Morals.

Zero. It is the first whole number in the infinite-length number system. This single number changed the way mathematics takes its form. In the History of Math and Zero in India, we would read that without zero, there is no accounting and Calculus.

We might sometimes wonder why would this zero even exists. Just imagine, what could be the case if we remove zero from the number system. For most of the calculations, we think almost all would have gotten their end.

Well, you may feel why this math even existed. But, we cannot escape from the fact that maths is an important subject. Everything starts from Zero. So, we must accept Zero and Math as resources than calculations.

If we want to know about the history of Math and Zero, we should know about Brahamagupta. Brahmagupta is an ancient Indian Mathematician. He was the one who explored the properties of Number Zero. Some of the advanced mathematical discoveries had their roots in India.

India added Zero to Maths

The modern system of positional decimal arithmetic with zero was discovered in the fourth or fifth century. This is because,

As the 19th-century mathematician Pierre-Simon Laplace explained:

It is India that gave us the ingenious method of expressing all numbers using ten symbols, each symbol receiving a value of position as well as an absolute value; a profound and important idea that appears so simple to us now that we ignore its true merit. But its very simplicity and the great ease which it has lent to all computations put our arithmetic in the first rank of useful inventions; and we shall appreciate the grandeur of this achievement the more when we remember that it escaped the genius of Archimedes and Apollonius, two of the greatest men produced by antiquity.

This is clear evidence that Zero was first developed in India around the fifth century. Soon then zero has become an important part of the number system across the world. The Indian scholar Pingala was the first to use ‘Shunya’, a Sanskrit word for zero. In 628 AD, Brahmagupta first defined zero and its operation. He developed a symbol which is a dot under the numbers. He also defined clear rules for addition and subtraction formulas. These are the basis of any mathematical function. Later these, Aryabatta used zero in the decimal system. Besides these, mathematics was also found to be used  in religious texts in ancient India.

The scholars preserved Mathematics in the city of Mohenjo Daro. This is far from the past during the Indus Valley Civilization. We use Math everywhere. Right from advanced architecture to its methods of measurement, counting, weighing, and more. The Roman number system does not go further than ten to the exponent of four. In contrast to it, the Indus Valley Civilization knew denominations as large as ten to the exponent of twelve.

India’s Lost history of a great Mathematician – Srinivasa Ramanujan

The heritage of Indian mathematics was grown after the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan. Most of the discoveries attributed to European scholars have their traces in India. Pythagorean theorem is one glorious example. Similarly, much of the work on Calculus is also done in India.

A Brief about Zero in Maths!

Sometimes, nothing makes better sense if placed beside the valued one. The same is the case with Zero. Despite the negative view, the invention of zero simplified many calculations. The rule of zero in math is significant. If you want to better know the value of zero, check about its placeholder value.

European civilizations were late to incorporate zero until the Fibonacci concept came out. Later in the Middle East and Africa, zero has become a revolutionary concept. This inspired the middle age thinkers to fundamental mathematics in the world.

The count of Nothing started here

The discovery of zero did not come all at once. It followed a series of stages in its fullest evolution. The count of this Nothing started first by Babylonians some 4000 years ago.  They adopted the positional notation to count the number and read it(The one we follow now). They divided the number into columns and defined the positional value of each column. (Ex: Ones, Tens, Hundreds, etc from right to left).

In this process, when they find nothing between the columns, they filled it up with ‘-’(A Dash/Hyphen). This has nothing in the true sense.  Later on, they came out with placing wedges in place of dash/hyphen. When the context of writing the sum of 2 & -2, the result is not very precise to show.

From here, zero slowly began to spread all around. But the true appreciation of representing zero in number line ventured in India. The researchers saw the first evidence of zero as ‘Shunya’.  And then Brahmagupta on his rules for calculations wrote that

“When zero is added to a number or subtracted from a number, the number remains unchanged; and a number multiplied by zero becomes zero.”

Here are the few important roles of Zero in math –

1. Necessary for fractions:

We wouldn’t know the concept of fractions without zero in math. Zero created a more accurate way to describe fractions.

2. Set the Boundary:

In basic subtraction, you find negative numbers. How could these come without zero? Confused?

Zero is neither positive nor negative. But, It sets the boundary between them both.

3. Foundation of Digital world:

There are two kinds of people. They are those who understand math(1) and those who don’t(0).

You may not understand this, but the computer you are operating understands this well. Because all your computer functions are built in Binary language which has only two alphabet (0 and 1).

Wrapping Up

From the first line of this blog, it is told that zero came into existence as a notion of nothingness. Then why do we need to indicate that nothingness even?

Though the Greeks believed zero was nothing, nothingness was very important in eastern regions. There were many debates to figure out the origin of Zero. But finally, this “Zero has become the Hero” of the world.

Before diving into anything, in particular, we would want to tell you very clearly that there are various perceptions of “a good school” among everyone in Hyderabad. If talking about parents as a niche, even there we have various opinions to cater.

Before we begin with the basic necessities of what a good school in Hyderabad might be like. We would like to mention,

 One of the parent’s perceptive,

“What matters to me, the very first thing that I would look into is infrastructure and hygiene. I wouldn’t let anyone from my family or relatives be enrolled in a school with everything good and not a proper infrastructure. And there are many of my friends who wouldn’t bother with infrastructure if there is good education.”

In a very similar way, there can be an ‘N’ number of combinations that we can keep going on.

Since the last few years, various schools have been formed and there are many available claiming them to be the best, but one must ensure that if they feel it is one among the best in the market or not.

There are various requirements that cannot be denied and have to be focused on. It may happen that these requirements have a lot of negativities and negative implications but a carefully thought-out selection procedure would only help you reach the right selection process.

Children learn and grow best when they are surrounded by positive, supportive, and stimulating people who can help them develop harmoniously. To make your kid succeed in school and on his first day of school, it is important to choose a good educational center for him.

Your child deserves it.

It would be better to take the help of professionals who are knowledgeable about the same cause since they would be able to give clear-cut instructions on what things need to be checked and how.

This blog shall talk about things that one needs to be looking for before enrolling any child in any school.

Basic requirements of schools in Hyderabad –

1. Curriculum Followed –

The basic 3 curriculums are SSC, CBSE, and ICSE. If we talk in particular,

– SSC Curriculum – Exams for the Secondary School Certificate(SSC) are administered by the state governments. The SSC curriculum is framed by the state education board. Earlier, parents with transferable jobs opted for CBSE or ICSE, while parents who did not move around much opted for the state curriculum or the SSC.

– CBSE Curriculum – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a board of education that reports to the Indian government. The CBSE emphasizes a concentric curriculum, which indicates that the lessons will build on lessons from the year before or will be a continuation of lessons from the year before.

– ICSE Curriculum – Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is a private, non-governmental body of education. Your child learns the virtues of assiduity, time management, and focused study thanks to the I.C.S.E curriculum, which is much more extensive and varied than those of other boards. I.C.S.E. is the perfect board for you if you are thinking about sending your child to a foreign university for higher education.

2. Infrastructure –

The most crucial part of a school’s infrastructure is the buildings, which include the classrooms, playgrounds, libraries, restrooms, drinking water facilities, science labs, art craft rooms, etc. Schools must have large, updated structures with well-ventilated classrooms. It makes learning engaging and motivates kids to show up to class, which boosts student attendance and enthusiasm for academics. It plays a critical role for schools to have a strong infrastructure in order to increase student achievement and enhance the educational environment.

3. Teaching Methodology

Activities are the many ways in which teaching methods are put into practice. Teaching methods are the more general strategies utilized to assist students in achieving learning outcomes. Teaching strategies aid students in mastering the course material, and learning how to use the information in specific situations. The manner of instruction has changed noticeably throughout time. With the introduction of current teaching techniques, interactive methods of teaching have been substituted for memorization and the standard recitation practice to teach the pupils, and the results are evident. Because modern teaching methods, unlike the traditional method of teaching, do not treat all pupils at the same level of their understanding abilities, this educational reform offers a completely different perspective on teaching and learning. Modern teaching techniques put less emphasis on lecturing and more emphasis on discussion, demonstration, practical application, cooperation, and activity-based learning.

4. Alumni –

It is always preferable to ask students from the school’s previous batch what it can provide for you. The finest source of information on the college is its alumni because they have first-hand knowledge of the institution. The principles, instruction, and ideology of the school are clearly reflected in its alumni. As a school grows, it is increasingly important for them to keep track of and interact with its alumni, which is why a solid Alumni Management & Guidance system is required. In addition to acting as mentors or role models, alumni can also motivate students to pursue postsecondary education, assist them in the application process, and then connect them to a professional network, according to the organization.

5. Role of the staff –

The teaching staff consists of qualified individuals who are directly involved in instructing children, such as classroom teachers, special education teachers, and other educators who interact with pupils individually, in small groups, or as a class. Most likely, this is among the most crucial things. Look up the school’s and its instructors’ ratings. The teaching style used at the school, the teachers’ educational backgrounds, the standard of instruction, etc. If you can, talk to your teachers. The way teachers understand the students also helps the parents to know their children better.

Quick Tip –

We just attached a quick tip for you all to understand and would help the kids too. Since the very blog is drooling all over learning and all adding a few academic tips might be a help to the readers.

We all abide by the fact that parents are the very first teachers of any child. And if that can be allowed the child to have and know the path that can be followed.

It can be through any means, the guidance, the reminders, parents can help their kids organize their time and support their desires to learn new things in and out of school. We have listed a few below to help you better.

Conclusion –

This article will educate you about the most important things that are to be considered before enrolling in any school. Being informed is always better than being uninformed, especially on an important matter like choosing the best school for your children. School should be a fun and safe place. Before your child starts school, you should find a family-friendly school to help them make friends and enjoy their early years of education. Choosing a school has never been easier. There are many websites that can help you find the right fit!

Believe us; there is no greater feeling than when your child succeeds in a project.

Education nowadays is changing vigorously and with these changing times, it is even more necessary to teach students the concept of the subject. By no means, the blog is to degrade theory-based learning but to understand that the weightage given should vary.

Not every child can learn the subjects just by understanding theory whereas project learning would involve the student’s engagement in the work and interaction. During the project, there are chances for them to improve their communication skills, and confidence and also work on their leadership skills.

Project-Based Learning –

We see Project-based learning as the approach that is being used by every institution nowadays because of the benefits which students gain during these projects, but it largely depends on teachers, who are going to monitor, explain and nurture the students about it. Every one of us knows that teachers now are more understanding, and friendly towards the students. That’s great any day but with it, the chances of students taking them for granted and not taking up studies/ work seriously are high.

During these types of projects, one needs to get out of the room and face the outside world for the completion of the project which brings exposure to an individual. Projects are mostly divided into two types – projects given only to an individual or can be given to a group of individuals.

Individual Vs Team Player –

According to me, the second one is more beneficial, when we see it from the corporate perspective. In this very situation, they have to work as a team and it becomes very important for any school to teach them well how they can deal and cope with the situation. No one can learn all these by just reading it. Some things need to have practicality attached to it. Knowing and understanding how to work in a team, lead a team, divide the work and get the things done is the exposure to the outside world and it is one of the very important things to be taught to kids nowadays.

To get on to the next type, assigning projects individually is also equally challenging since it leaves the students with no other choice but to do all the things by themselves and would play a major role in nurturing their skills in every aspect right from decision-making until the execution.

Students get to know life in the institutions as well as the real world. We as humans love competition/ challenges. When projects are given to the students it motivates them and encourages them to study the concept on their own and execute it with their thoughts or in given situations which is a great way by which a student can learn a particular topic at any point in time. Project learning not only eases the subject for the students by involving them to study but also gives them a new start in studying.

Every child shall learn how things are begun and ended. Like how an entrepreneur needs to know a gist on various things to make things easy to work, this learning would act as a preview to them.

To be very precise, project learning also builds a competitive space among the students in the class to be the number one in the class which pushes the students for better learning, execution, and presentation as in the project they are given the deadline which also urges them to complete the task on time which helps them to learn the punctuality, the importance of the deadline and commitment which will be useful for them in the future.

Project-based learning is just not any alternate method of learning but it also doesn’t limit the students to the institution’s syllabus and provides the students with a bit of extra knowledge during this activity. Therefore, it also received acceptance very soon.

Though we agree to the point that project-based learning cannot be applied to teaching all the concepts, using it as often as possible will be in favor of students.

Theory Learning –

Theory learning eventually causes students to lose/ lack interest in their studies. Learning things by reading cannot be useful for all subjects.
We agree that theories are essential because they guide and explain the things we observe. For conducting an investigation and gathering data through observation, a researcher must have a clear understanding of the data that is crucial to gather. Thus, valid theories are validated by research and are a sound basis for practical action. We corroborate the fact that not everything can be explained practically.

For example, When we talk about history as a subject it is very boring for most children. Memorizing it becomes difficult as it has so much to offer.

How students receive, process, perceive, and retain the concepts, might differ. We aren’t talking about the students who can learn through any method or approach of teaching. Be it theory or project it wouldn’t make much of a difference to them, but students who aren’t in the same boat as the other kids would need extra attention and care. It is for them that project-based learning would be highly beneficial.

Especially during exams when a child has to learn and understand a concept easily, it might be a task via notes, whereas when it is enacted as a drama or made a presentation about or any of such activity is used increases the chances to retain information becomes stronger since the interaction and involvement have increased.

Study Tips on How to Study Theory Subjects

• Emphasis on Keywords

Learning keywords in theory subjects is important to score, but first, focus on understanding concepts. Then, focussing on the main words would be better.

• Read out loud

Read aloud whatever it is you are studying. Theoretically, this approach works because it makes use of a variety of bodily sensations. For eg, only our visual senses are alert while we read in our minds. However, when we read it aloud, our senses of vision and hearing are attentive, and we are also speaking simultaneously.

• Write to Learn

One of the oldest and most successful tactics in the book. following the text. You can record your learning by answering questions or taking notes.

• Self-Made Notes

Making notes for every chapter by yourself is the best method to save time and understand the concepts. Take notes during the lesson, and jot down all the things that are still on your mind but that you were unable to understand earlier. It helps in quick revision and will help your mind to retain information for longer.

• Use visualization

Relate things to visuals, whether they be actual or animated. You can make up stories about things or tie them to actual case studies, just like in law.

Role of the Teachers –

Teachers can organize and create subject-specific activities and strategies to learn the subject. Prioritizing a well-rounded education is essential for teachers to master a variety of teaching and classroom management strategies to benefit the kids. Learning theories in the classrooms, and also learning how, when, and where it will be useful can also add points in helping the kids.

Teachers that are knowledgeable in learning theories are better able to relate to a wide range of students and register things in their brains. Concentrate on different learning styles, resulting in instruction that is specifically tailored to each student’s requirements and abilities.

We would like to mention that Theory based learning and Project-based learning, both have a set of things that can help the student in some way or the other.

For example.

Theory Based Learning can teach the students –

1. Communication skills,
2. Improves focus, and
3. Expands imagination skills.

And, Project Based Learning can teach the students –

1. Leadership skills,
2. Boost self-confidence, and
3. Teamwork.

Conclusion

Through this blog, we wanted to explain that theory-based learning can be a help for a few students but project-based learning can be a help for many students. Project-based learning will not bide them to sit in the class the whole day to learn but it will encourage them to learn things on their own and boost their competitive spirit as well. There are many schools in Hyderabad that have already introduced it and are teaching the students the necessary skills for life.

Now, it is time for the others to also join the ride and see the difference in students themselves.

How to solve aptitude questions easily? This is the biggest question everyone has. Now and then, we look for different tricks to solve a problem, that may be a family issue or something related to subjects and education. If it is in education, we search for finding methods to solve the given question in a limited time. We try to solve them as quickly as possible to win the battle of any entrance exam. But this requires a lot of practice and focus on its depth. For some questions, we need a logical side of our brain to get the answer. Managing all these in a single exam and importantly within a given time limit. To accomplish this, every school started teaching the students some tips on creative, logical, and timely thinking right from primary levels.

Understanding Aptitude Rightly

When the students are moving to their secondary school, they move closer to making some interests and thus make their choices from optional subjects or extra-curricular courses. Aptitude is one introduced to build the ability to think critically about a given problem in a specified time.

The decision of what to study in senior secondary schools, such as humanities, commerce, science, or vocational fields, is one of many significant decisions that students must make when they advance into the secondary stage of their education. Many things, including students’ interests, attitudes, motivation, personalities, and aptitudes, impact this choice. Students’ decisions are frequently impacted by their professors, parents, family members, and friends. By assisting kids in understanding their goals, strengths, and limitations, teachers and parents play a vital part in assisting children in making decisions. We all know that when students are aware of their abilities, they are more likely to be motivated to work harder and produce better work.

A specific ability or group of abilities is called aptitude. Because aptitude is a distinctive skill needed to study or work, it predicts a person’s likelihood of succeeding in a given field of study, occupation, or vocation as well as the extent to which training in that field would be beneficial. Different professions require different skill sets. For instance, having the ability to sketch freehand and having a visual recall are all necessary for being a great architect. A student who possesses this set of skills is at an advantage and is more likely to succeed in this position.

Therefore, being aware of one’s aptitude may aid a student in making wise professional (educational and occupational/vocational) choices. It’s critical to understand that a student’s hobbies, character traits, educational background, and job needs all play a significant part in career planning.

Information on aptitude that is useful to students

Students looking for academic or professional counseling can benefit from knowing more about aptitude. It should be applied while taking into account the needs and academic level of the students. Parents, teachers, and school officials would be able to support students in making these decisions if they were aware of their strengths and weaknesses.

Results from aptitude tests may support pupils in the:

• Having an understanding of and making subject decisions based on the stated special abilities
• Investigate possible job paths that are especially relevant to their areas of strength.
• Reaffirm their aptitude and consider whether they want to stick with the program they’ve chosen or look for alternatives.
• They should re-evaluate their career aims and goals in light of their unique aptitudes, as well as their efforts to meet their academic and professional objectives.

Here are some steps which are often overlooked. These steps if practiced regularly will certainly improve the overall performance.

1. Sort the questions into three groups based on their degree of difficulty: easy, moderate, and hard. Compared to difficult ones, easy questions will take less time to answer.
2. Try to answer these questions by imposing time constraints on yourself.
3. Look for other ways to answer the same question. You can use it to decide which option is simpler and quicker.
4. Identify your areas of strength and weakness. Improve your weak areas and make your regions stronger.
5. Practice a lot is the fourth and last step. There isn’t a shortcut.

Best ways to increase your Aptitude Solving Capabilities

We all know that “Practice Makes the man perfect.”

For many people, Aptitude tests are like launching a new rocket. But it is better easy if understood and practiced well. Improve your aptitude paper solving by following these simple tips and increase your aptitude-solving capabilities.

• You must spend at least two hours per day solving aptitude questions.
  • You can attempt doing the papers provided at the end of the book after using aptitude test books to comprehend the ideas.

• Make sure you answer the questions without using a calculator because the majority of the exams do not permit this.
  • When time is the most important factor in any test, take note of it as you are answering the questions.

• Solve brainteasers and puzzles to help your brain function more quickly and develop your logical thinking.

Playing Mathematics games will help improve the aptitude skills

• One of the best techniques for developing aptitude skills while having fun is playing math games. Many games will help in mathematics, including Dragon Box Algebra 5+.
• “Don’t abuse the internet for and by your children”. Ask them to find educational books or additional games and applications.
• Make aptitude a priority in whatever you do. Learning new concepts by applying them to daily life is always simple.
• I would advise applying math to daily activities, such as figuring out discounts while making purchases. Your aptitude will increase as a result, and your calculations will become quicker.

You should aware that online aptitude tests might help you develop your aptitude. You can enroll in any coaching school if you believe you cannot improve your aptitude skills on your own. Your blunders will be easier to spot and your preparation for competitive tests will go more smoothly if you have a mentor, you can ask your queries.

The goal of aptitude tests for the fifth grade is to gauge a student’s capability for learning rather than their actual knowledge. This makes studying for aptitude exams challenging. However, you may assist your child in preparing for a fifth-grade aptitude exam by going over the test’s objectives, focusing on test-taking techniques, studying the proper material, supporting your child’s extracurricular activities, and attending to their physical requirements (like a good diet and plenty of rest before tests).

Conclusion

Study up on the exam. For further information, speak to the school, a guidance counselor, or your child’s teacher. What kind of aptitude exam will your child take? The intelligence quotient (IQ) test and interest inventories are two popular aptitude assessments. IQ tests are used by schools to identify whether students should participate in specialized programs including gifted education, advanced placement classes, and special education.

Bappa is everyone’s favorite and we eagerly wait to celebrate him every year. Ganesha is an elephant-headed god, a remover of obstacles, and teaches us the wisdom of living. Ganesha is one of the best-known and most easily recognizable Hindu deities.

In India, Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi (Or Chavithi) is celebrated across different states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, etc. This is the long-celebrated festival which lasts for 9 days. As per the Hindu Calendar, this festival is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada which falls between August and September.

About the Festival of Ganesh Chaturthi

India is the land of different religions and cultures. Every religion mark itself for its traditions, customs, and unique style of commemorating the festivals. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is one such festival observed by every Hindu. This festival is said to be the Birth of Lord Ganesh, who is the prime god of any new beginning. Lord Ganesha is also called the God of wisdom and education. People celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and worship the god for 9 or 11 days, especially during the festival. They believe that lord Ganesh blesses them with good health and prosperity.

History of Ganesh Navratri

We all know that during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, we worship the god for 9 days and call it “Ganesh Navratri.” This tradition of celebration first began in Pune in Maharashtra. During the time of Chatrapati Shivaji, Ganesh Chaturthi has been publicly commemorated. This is first bought by Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak.

Why is Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrated?

There are many stories surrounding the birth of Lord Ganesh. We all know that Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.

One day Parvathi while going to take bath, thinks of having some privacy. There is no one dedicated to her to guard the entrance and Parvathi with a wish to have one dedicated guard, takes the turmeric applied on her body and molds an idol. Parvathi then breathes life into that turmeric mold and is named Ganesha. To mark the birth of Ganesha, we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi beginning this day and lasting for 9 days.

Ganesha and his Elephant Head

Parvathi when lord Shiva is away appoints Ganesha to guard the entrance and not allow anyone to enter her house. Ganesha stays at the entrance dedicated and sends back all whoever comes to meet Goddess Parvati.

When Lord Shiva returned, willing to meet Goddess Parvathi, Ganesha stops him as he was advised by Parvathi ma to stop from entering House. Lord Ganesha was so stubborn that he did not allow Lord Shiva to enter and that led to a tussle between them. Initially, Lord Shiva with his pleasant tone tries to convince little Ganesh but he kept on refusing him. Eventually, Lord Shiva got furious and destructed Lord Ganesha cutting his head off.

Knowing this Goddess Parvathi rushed towards Ganesha and explains to Lord Shiva all her demands Ganesha followed. Goddess Parvathi asks Shiva to bring back life to her dearest son who never missed to obey her. Knowing the truth, Lord Shiva orders his followers to get the head of the very first dead animal they encounter in the direction of North. Lord Shiva’s followers get the Elephant’s head and then he brings life to Ganesha.

The Rituals

The festival of Bappa includes 4 distinct rituals. Pranapratishtha, Shhodashopachara, Uttarpuja, and Ganpati Visarjan.

In Pranapratishtha, the birth of Ganesh is symbolized by creating idols. These idols are placed in mandaps and homes offering the pooja for 9 days. Prayers are offered by devotees by singing devotional songs and chanting hymns.

In Shhodashopachara, 16 types of prayers are performed including offering different types of fruits, flowers, leaves, and Prasadam especially Modaks(Undrallu).

The last phase is called Uttarapuja which takes right before the immersion of the Ganesh Idol. On this day, the Ganesha idol is taken to immerse in the nearby Lake or River.

Ganesha is associated with Knowledge, Wisdom, and Prosperity.

Lord Ganesha symbolizes many life lessons and is hence considered the lord of wisdom and knowledge. As we heard from many Puranas, Lord Ganesha is the lord of new beginnings and is worshipped before every new event or beginning. He is believed to clear the obstacles. Ganesha is said the patron deity of students and hence worshipping him brings success in careers and achieve success in their lives.

How Walkertown Academy celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi?

We celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi a day or two days before the actual festivals. We conduct a special assembly for the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturti.

The young children of Walkertown Academy are profound to take the DIY activities and get the best out of their work. We teach them why Ganesha is worshipped every year by giving them mythological stories and narrations. We also organize cultural performances to tell them the significance of Lord Ganesha.

We not only make it an entertainment day but also, embeds the students in the importance of Indian customs and traditions to follow, their scientific significance, etc. This year we explained the importance of clay Ganesha to our students who showed the utmost interest in making the Bappa idols.

Finally, on this Ganesh Chaturthi – We wish you all a Very Happy and Prosperous time.

Schools have a routine where everything was taken care of by the teachers backing the children. However, parents took part in checking whether the given homework was completed or not. If you were a parent of a school-going child decades ago, the need for your contribution is a bit less and sometimes not mandatory. But as the education pattern is changing, virtual learning has become common.

Schools are taking measures to engage parents in the child’s daily activities and assignments to complete. Everything is being maintained in the school diaries which parents are made to check and sign while sending the child to school the next day. Many studies and educational surveys revealed that this communication increase led to marked improvements in students’ academic progress.

How And Why Technology Is Essential Even For Parents Now!

After covid-19 the pandemic, things changed a lot and people have to get into the new routines. During the pandemic outbreak, schools conducted classes online and all the communications were carried out on some platforms or applications or software. This made parents gain new insights into kids’ schooling and education.

In most cases, parents are with their extreme schedules and couldn’t always make it up to attend the child’s PTA meetings or get the least time to directly interact with the teachers. Hence schools have introduced special programs like online parent-teacher communications via zoom calls, Google calls, Learning management systems, etc.

Being Tech-Savvy Is The Need Of The Hour For Parents

While we are figuring out to improve the effectiveness of communication between parents and teachers, we made it necessary for everyone especially parents to adapt themselves to the technology like basic learning environments and software. This practice is necessary for both teachers and parents to ease the process for the kids. So, let us have a discussion on how this can be achieved cumulatively.

1.    Technology brings the parents close to the classroom –

Digitally aided parent communication brings all parents, teachers, and kids closer together. Moreover, this communication makes the parent engage in their child’s classroom activities and they feel valued. Technology helped parents to fill the gaps they have in child’s education. Many options like internet conferences or video recordings from PTAs help parents to know the school scenario of the kid.

In fact, schools are providing many communication channels like Emails, dedicated web pages, E-Portfolios or Learning Management Systems, and the most user-friendly mobile applications. These easy-to-use channels make a lot of difference demanding the parent to explore more into them.

Let us look deep into how these platforms are helping parents to maximize their vision of their child’s education.

Emails –

Harvard Graduate School of Education says that Emails are one of the effective channels if composed precisely to the updates to share with. Email is the traditional yet the best and immediate source of communication. Teachers can drop anything from administrational changes, curriculum updates, school events, child performance reports, and the list goes on.

This requires the parent to get into the basic email operations which help them be in the loop of the communication and help the child to compete with co-students.

Learning Management Systems –

Post pandemic, Learning management systems have become the backbone of almost all schools. Right from everyday schedules of teachers and classes to class notes to observe by the student, class test schedules, after-test scores, and feedback, and everything is just added to the software.

The parents will be provided access to these with respect to the child and they get notifications to make the communication more quick and spontaneous. Parent interactive sections are also provided to share their response is also provided.

Mobile Applications –

Few schools have developed mobile applications for parents to sign in and check the reports and schedules of their children. Some of the specific mobile applications like Remind and ClassDojo are introduced to make communications easier as in mail.

Tools To Boost Parent – Teacher Communication

From our past experiences and ongoing scenario, we have observed a few aspects from all parents, teachers, and students.

1.    Parents wonder less about what is actually going on at school

We noted that in some cases, parents less concentrate on detailed activities of children at school and what they are getting home to do. But, parents’ at-home conversations about the child’s schoolwork are an add-on to their overall academic performance and interaction.

2.    Teachers need to gain more time for constant interactions

Believe it or not, make maximum direct communications with parents. This makes the constructive and informed communication in which you talk about N more things that may not be conveyable on mails or phone calls or other communication channels.

3.    Children make it their responsibility to learn on their own

With clear support from both parents and teachers, children understand why it needs them to be more active and perform well in their academics and co-curricular.

Here are a few ideas and tool recommendations to help kick off a positive parent-teacher dialogue:

Send immediate and up-to-date information to anyone with Remind Application.

Start conversations individually with parents using Seesaw.

Use online grade books like ThinkWave.

Start writing classroom blogs for parents using Edublogs.

To Sum Up,

So, we say that being technically advanced brings a lot more benefits to kids to be more interactive and proactive.

The post Ways For Parents To Stay Updated On Using Technology! appeared first on Walkertown Academy.

In this article you will why it is vital for children to cultivate the habit of reading, and how you as parents can help them do that. So, let’s get started

Is there a reason why children hate reading?

There are a few reasons why children might hate reading. One reason could be that they find it difficult to understand what they’re reading. This can be frustrating for children, and they may give up easily if they’re not enjoying the experience. Another reason could be that they simply don’t like the books they’re being asked to read. If the books are boring or uninteresting, children will likely lose interest quickly. Finally, some children might feel like they’re not good at reading, and this can lead to a feeling of inadequacy or insecurity. If children don’t feel confident in their ability to read, they may be less likely to enjoy the activity. Also, children would rather be playing outside, watching TV, or spending time with friends. Reading is just too dull for most kids.

Benefits Of Reading From A Young Age

There are many benefits to reading from a young age.

1. Reading helps children develop their imaginations and opens up new worlds for them to explore.
2. It also helps them develop language skills and improve their communication skills.
3. Reading also helps children learn to focus and pay attention, and it can improve their memory and concentration.
4. Additionally, reading helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
5. And finally, reading is a great way for children to relax and de-stress.

Why Are Books Important For A Child’s Development?

Books are important for a child’s development for many reasons. They can help a child learn to read and understand new concepts. Reading books aloud to children can also help them develop their listening and comprehension skills. In addition, books can introduce children to new and different ideas, cultures, and worlds. They can also help children develop their imaginations, creativity, and personality based on good morals. Ultimately, books can help children develop into well-rounded, thoughtful, and intelligent adults.

How Can You Help Your Child Develop The Habit Of Reading?

There are many ways that you as a parent can help your child develop the habit of reading.

1. Start with personal stories

There’s no better way to get your child interested in reading than by sharing your own personal stories with them. Talk about the books you loved as a kid, the ones that made you laugh or cry, and explain why you enjoyed them so much. Then, let your child choose a book that they’re interested in and read it together. Take turns reading aloud, and ask questions about the story as you go. Not only will this help your child develop a love for reading, but it will also create a bond between the two of you that will last a lifetime.

2. Create a reading corner at home

If you want to help your child develop the habit of reading, one of the best things you can do is create a reading corner at home. This is a place where your child can go to read, without distractions like the television or other electronics. It can be as simple as a corner of the living room with a comfortable chair and a few shelves of books. Encourage your child to use the reading corner every day, and set aside some time each day for family members to read together.

3. Be the narrator

The most important thing you can do to help your child develop the habit of reading is to be the narrator. Read aloud to your child every day, and encourage them to follow along with the story. As they get older, have them take turns reading with you. Make reading time a special time for your family, and let your child see how much you enjoy it. The more you model the behavior, the more likely your child is to develop a love for reading.

4. Read with expressions and voiceovers.

You can help your child develop the habit of reading by reading with expressions and voiceovers. This will help your child to understand the context of the story and to build interest in the story. Additionally, by using different voices for different characters, your child will be able to follow the story more easily.

5. Preach before you teach

One of the best ways to encourage your child to develop the habit of reading is to set the example yourself. Make sure to set aside time each day to read for yourself, and let your child see you doing it. You can also talk about the books you’re reading and why you’re enjoying them. This will help your child see reading as something enjoyable and worthwhile and not just a chore.

6. Choose the right books

Reading is a great way for children to learn new things, explore different worlds and develop their imaginations. But getting kids to read can sometimes be a challenge. One way to help your child develop the habit of reading is to choose the right books.

Look for books that are interesting and engaging, and that will hold your child’s attention. Avoid books that are too difficult or too easy – instead, look for books that are just right for your child’s reading level. Encourage your child to read aloud to you, and take turns reading together.

Most importantly, make reading fun! Create a cozy reading nook in your home, and let your child pick out their favorite books to read. Reading should be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

7. Encourage them to join a book club

As a parent, you can help your child develop the habit of reading by encouraging them to join a book club. Book clubs provide a great opportunity for children to explore different genres of literature and meet other kids who enjoy reading. Plus, book clubs usually have adult supervision, so you can be sure that your child is reading age-appropriate material.

8. Practice discussions and Question-Answer sessions

To help your child develop the habit of reading, you can start by practicing discussions and question-answer sessions. You can ask your child questions about the book they are reading, and have them explain what they have read. This will help them to become more engaged with the material and better understand what they are reading. You can also encourage them to read aloud to you and discuss what they are reading with you. This will help them to develop their reading comprehension skills and improve their fluency.

9. Make library their second home

You can help your child develop the habit of reading by taking them to the library often. This will give them exposure to a variety of books and they can find ones that they are interested in. Reading with them often can also help them develop reading skills and they can learn new words.

10. Gift them books

One of the best ways to help your child develop the habit of reading is to gift them books. Books can be a great source of inspiration and motivation for children, and they can help instill a love of reading in them. If you have a child who is struggling to get into reading, consider gifting them a few of their favorite books. This can help them to see the value in reading and may encourage them to pick up the habit.

11. Show them movies based on books they read

There are a few things you can do to help your child develop the habit of reading. One is to show them movies based on books they read. This can help to make the reading material more relatable and enjoyable for them. Watching something they once imagined can be quite fascinating for them.

12. Embrace technology

There’s no doubt that technology has changed the way we read. With e-books, audiobooks, and online articles, we can consume content in a variety of ways that fit our busy lives. But what does this mean for our children?

As parents, we can help our children develop the habit of reading by embracing technology. By exposing them to a variety of reading materials, we can show them that reading can be fun, informative, and entertaining. And with so many options available, there’s sure to be something that appeals to every child.

So don’t be afraid to let your child read a book on their tablet, listen to an audiobook on their phone, or read an online article on their computer. By doing so, you’re helping them develop a love for reading that will last a lifetime.

Other ways are to make sure that there are plenty of books available for your child to read. Also encourage your child to read by providing incentives, such as a special treat for reading a certain number of books. You can also set a good example for your child by reading yourself. Finally, make sure to praise your child when he or she reads, and help him or her to find books that are interesting and enjoyable to read.

The post Why And How Children Should Develop A Habit Of Reading appeared first on Walkertown Academy.

Over the past few years, there have been increased emotional and mental problems, especially in children. There may be different reasons individual to each, but one of the common reasons noticed was, being nuclear to family, friends, and society. Yes, this is a generous effect on every child. Being nuclear makes the child less communicative and interactive with the people around them. Studies show that a child being kind and empathetic helps them in growing into a happier, healthier, and more likable person.

As parents, we make sure the child is learning to read and write but somewhere we assume them to learn and develop kindness skills. But, like reading and writing, kindness is to be taught to the children. Start by telling them “Share your toys!”

What is Kindness in Kids?

“Being Kind is a Virtue!”

I recently asked my friends “What do they mean by kindness to children?”.

Before we start teaching them what kindness is, I urge every parent to figure out what it is actually. You wonder with the responses I got. Many and many responses include Compassion, Generosity, Empathy, Justice, Alleviating, and Suffering. Every answer from them has an underlying consideration for others.

Kindness may sometimes vary with the age and maturity of the children. For the littlest kids, it may be sharing their favourite crayons or breaking a cookie into two pieces and sharing with their friends. If we look into some older kids, this varies from patting the back of worried friends or waving at the neighbours or might be inviting their lonely classmates to join them for lunch.

Whatever your child’s perception of certain etiquette, encouraging them in the right way and nurturing them with correct values of kindness makes the difference in the long run.

Help them Understand What Kindness is?

Do you ever hear your child’s classroom stories after he is back from school?

You might have. Even if not, let’s start making it a routine for a few minutes before you ask them to write their homework. Because this helps them build strong communication and bond with you. Moreover, it gives you a picture of how and what is your child gesture toward his classmates.

Most of the time, you might have heard from kids saying, “Mamma, today my friend shared his lunch box with all of us as he bought some crunchy snacks.” Or sometimes you also hear them saying, “He has shared his favourite crayon with one of his friends who missed it.” Both scenarios may not be the highest levels of kindness but they mark the beginning of some positive vibes in your child towards others.

Some of the stubborn children say “MINE” for everything they own or see. Sometimes, this may not be a good gesture and in turn, makes the child self-isolated from people around him.

It is our duty as parents and teachers to teach them some basic things on how they can be more friendly with other people. Even before your kid is old enough to understand, start talking about it then and now. And here, no need to be complicated!

While you are feeding them, ask them to give you a scoop of what you are feeding them. Show your love for feeding yourself. This makes them understand sharing is love! While your kids are playing together in the park, if any friend of theirs falls and cries, your child may go help them or start crying. This is the right scenario to articulate empathy to your child. Ask them why they felt sad or why they helped their friend. You will be amazed by their answers.

Empathy – Compassion:

While discussing or teaching about kindness, Empathy and Compassion are the two words that make it all.

Empathy is when we think about what someone is feeling or thinking and then respond in a caring manner. And compassion is empathy in action – Caring for them, treating them with love and kindness, and helping them when they need it.

Every kid is having a skill unique to him and can be recognized only when they feel about doing or saying it or being empathetic.

Read about: What are ways of Collaborative Teaching

Fortunately, kindness is something that can be taught by anyone, parents, family, or teachers. The most dominant way a child learns to be kind is by being observant of their surroundings. It means as adults we have a greater share in making them learn and understand kindness and its beauty. So, if you want to make your child learn kindness and, in the world, here are a few ways too!!

1.    Inspire their Imagination

“Not All-Night Dreams come True! The Day Dreams can be made True”

No one can be a compassionate person unless he has a dream that awakens him from day sleep. Every one of us imagines our life to be so in the future and so our kids do the same. Yes, your kids imagine things in their little brains.

You might have heard kids narrating some stories instantly that came out right from their imagination. They narrate it so well that we might somewhere feel like it happened in real-time. Never stop your child from such imaginary narrations, let them explore their brains and build the stories by themselves.

For some grown-up children, ask the question of what they will do if placed in a scenario of asking to sleep alone outside. Or ask them how they feel if they see someone in a wheelchair trying to get into the bus. These make them think about it and start talking from their heart. They just imagine what he is thinking and come out narrating it from imagination. Whether he says it positively or negatively, don’t stop them from the narration. Let them imagine and narrate, just guide them if they are going out of line.

2.    Model Kindness everywhere

When it comes to raising kids, every parent has their unique ideology and patterns based on what they want their kids to be or achieve. Dr. Harding says, we cannot control the child’s behavior, but can look for ways to demonstrate kind behavior ourselves. Kids are eager to copy from others, especially parents and teachers. So, you can model kindness from the time they start talking and understanding their surroundings.

It is said that 80% of parenting is Modelling. Children learn more from their parents. Right from greeting each other in the morning to sharing the chores equally to talking to the neighbors. It is equally important the way you treat your child or spend time with them listening to their school stories or sometimes imaginary stories. Respond to them with love, command less and only when required.

Modelling kindness constitutes many rights from you putting down the phone or speaking to your elders or neighbours to addressing other people.

3.    Practice Perspective Taking

Before your kid considers others, it is required to make them understand what the actual thing is. Consider a scenario where one of their play partners is shifting to another place by stating the correct reason. Ask them how they are feeling about it. This makes you understand what’s your child’s perspective on certain things or how he takes things that are usual and sudden. Ask them what he says if the same happens to them.

4.    Pay attention to the effects of kindness

Your kid may not always notice or feel the vibe of kindness they shared with others. Help them know and make them feel it. Tell them how the other people felt about their act of kind behaviour. Consider, that you heard from one of your kid’s teachers that he helped his friend in colouring. That made the kid and teacher happy and great. Tell your kid about it and appreciate them from your end. This makes them understand that they have done something good and got praised for it.

“Yes, Kindness can be practiced for rewards which make us happy”

Similarly, make your kids notice how they felt about their friend sharing his snacks with him. This makes them feel gratitude for their friend who made him feel the joy of crunchies along with him. With this, your kid can cultivate the emotion of Gratitude which is the highest asset.

• A deep terminology – Kind words, Thank You, Please

It is a good idea to make kids find something good in others and say the same to them. Teaching good manners is not only about being good or respecting others but also showing gratitude or apologizing if anyone got hurt for them or pleading with someone politely for things they need. All these might look like basic terms but are deep if we dig into the emotional concerns.

In case you haven’t watched the movies, kids find it the most difficult to adjust in a new environment. They isolate themselves and refrain from making friends. This can have a huge impact on their developing personalities. Hence, it is vital that the parents select the best schools for their children. Schools aren’t just for studies as children make some lifelong friends and learn valuable lessons outside of academics in school.
